We provide all class materials including notebooks and pens. The only thing you need to bring is a dictionary. You can buy a Spanish-English dictionary in Antigua, if you don’t want to burden your luggage with it, but other languages are hard to find here.
Free access to Online Platform, we have developed an online platform that allows us to offer dynamic and interactive Spanish classes that go beyond the limitations of traditional teaching methods.
At the end of your course we can provide a certificate of attendance upon request. The certificate details the dates of your course, number of hours studied, and the level you’ve reached.
Free coffee, tea and purified water are available during your lessons. Free wi-fi is available throughout the school building round the clock. Tuition does not include accommodation, transportation, or weekend tours. Some of the weekly activities are free and others cost just a few dollars for transportation and/or entrance fees.
The school is open year round and you can begin your Spanish course whenever it is convenient for you. You do not have to begin on a Monday.
Classes can begin on any day of the week. For instance, if you begin on Wednesday, your class week is Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Monday and Tuesday of the following week. Alternatively, you can also take lessons on the weekend and have classes from Wednesday through Sunday. We can set up your lessons however it works best for you.
Ixchel Spanish School is open year round. We are only closed on a handful of major holidays:
Classes missed because of a holiday can be made up by taking extra hours on other days. If that is not practical, we will prorate your tuition.
Rooms at the school are available year round and you can begin your stay on any day of the week.
A week is 7 consecutive days and nights, e.g. Saturday through Saturday, or Wednesday through Wednesday. Extra days can be added at the beginning or end of your stay as required to fit your itinerary.
The rooms at the school are very popular with our students and often booked out several weeks in advance, particularly during the high season (Lent and Easter week, and June through August). If you’d like to stay at the school, we recommend you make your reservation as early as practical.
The homestay includes breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday through Friday, and breakfast and lunch on Saturday. No meals are provided on Saturday night, Sunday and national holidays.
Wi-fi is available round the clock at no extra charge. Note, however, that residential internet in Guatemala is fairly slow by international standards. You will get a key to your room and to the school building so you can come and go as you please.
The optional meal plan includes breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday through Friday, and breakfast and lunch on Saturday. No meals are provided on Saturday night, Sunday and national holidays.
Family homestay is available year round and you can begin your stay on any day of the week.
A week is 7 consecutive days and nights, e.g. Saturday through Saturday, or Wednesday through Wednesday. Extra days can be added at the beginning or end of your stay as required to fit your itinerary.
The host families are located in the south of Antigua’s historic center, within a few blocks from the school.

The driver who is picking you up at the airport will be waiting for you at the exit of the arrival area, holding a sign with your name. He will be easy to spot. He will take you directly to the school or your homestay.
We will keep an eye on your flight and if it is delayed, the driver will wait for you. If your transfer is from Antigua to the airport, you will be picked up at the school or your homestay and taken directly to the entrance of the departure area.
Airport transfer is available anytime, day or night, including weekends and national holidays.
Children under the age of 9 years can ride along for free together with their parents or guardian.
No advance payment or deposit is required to secure your reservation. Paying when you arrive in Antigua is fine. However, if you prefer to prepay, we can also accept payments by bank transfer, Zelle or Paypal.
We accept US dollars and Guatemalan Quetzals – whatever works best for you. We also accept all major credit/debit cards, but due to the high bank fees for card processing in Guatemala, we have to charge an 8 percent surcharge for credit/debit card payments.
