Most of our students choose a family homestay and live with a local family while they study Spanish at Ixchel. A homestay provides lots of opportunity to practice your Spanish in real-life situations and learn about the customs and culture of Latin America.
We understand, though, that not everybody is comfortable living in the home of strangers.
We have rooms for students right here at the school and can help you find a suitable hotel or apartment. The most important thing to us is that you be comfortable!
Family homestay is by far the most popular accommodation option. The majority of our students choose to stay with a local family while they participate in an immersion Spanish course at Ixchel.
Living with a local family gives you lots of opportunity to practice your Spanish in everyday situations and learn about the customs and culture of Latin America.
Our host families are located in residential areas in the south and southeast of Antigua’s historic center, within a few blocks from the school. You can easily walk to school and don’t need to take a taxi or use public transportation.
The host families provide breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday through Friday, and breakfast and lunch on Saturday. No meals are provided on Saturday night, Sunday and national holidays.
For those who are not comfortable living in the home of strangers or prefer to have more privacy, we offer rooms right at the school.
Staying at the school, you have more opportunity to interact with fellow students and the Ixchel team. However, the temptation to speak English with other students will be greater and you might practice your Spanish less than in a homestay.
The school is located in the south of Antigua’s historic center, only five blocks from the Central Park. Just about all places of interest are within easy walking distance.
Meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday through Friday, and breakfast and lunch on Saturday) are available and there is also a kitchen where you can cook yourself.
